The Children’s program on 92.1 Choice Fm in the morning from 9:00am to 10:00am every weekend on the Gulu local based Radio station has brought house of hope children, among other children of the Gulu Community, to discuss children related issues like children’s right and responsibilities plus sensitizing the public on some of the community vices like alcoholism, defilement, child sacrifice and neglect among others. Last week, the children Radio program focused on alcoholism.
One child told listeners that 'whenever parents involved themselves in drinking of alcohol and being that Northern Uganda is still recovering from decades of war, there would be no money to pay school fees for the children and added that drinking alcohol leads to child abuse.
Another child told fellow children not to drink because alcohol causes diseases like lung cancer, heart attacks. He told people to stop drinking alcohol because the Bible says that human body is God’s temple and should therefore be made holy (1 Corinthians 6:19).
Soon the children started taking in phone calls from the listeners pertaining their program. One caller thanked the children saying 'alcohol is a big problem to many youths and people in the community.'
One caller told the children that Youths and children in her area are seriously drinking alcohol and not going to school.
After some other phone calls one of the beneficiaries of House of Hope called upon the parents to allow their children go to school. She continued saying that the local leaders in Gulu should rise up and check on young children in the disco halls, bars and lodges so that the future generation can grow to develop the region.
After he children were given sometime to send greetings to the people they love which was done with smiling faces and gaps!!!
